Dental bridges replace the gap caused by one or more missing teeth — as one or more artificial teeth are cemented into place using the teeth on either side for support. At SF Dentist, we will use a bridge to replace the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically.
It is important that a missing tooth is replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated properly and in a timely manner, the teeth surrounding the gap will begin to shift move inward. Since teeth use their neighbors for support, if one is missing they begin to fall and shift into the open spaces. This may negatively impact your bite and can eventually result in problems with the jaw.
Dental Bridge Procedure
During the first visit to our office, Dr. Azim will prepare your teeth. After your teeth are prepared, we will take an impression to send to the dental lab to make the bridge. We will also fit you with a temporary bridge to be worn until your permanent one is constructed.
During your second visit, Dr. Azim will remove your temporary bridge and place the permanent one in place. Adjustments are sometimes necessary, and we may choose to temporarily cement your bridge into place to ensure functionality is properly restored. Once the bridge is adjusted to fit your bite, we will permanently cement the bridge.
